What is OER ?






Any Online educational material that is freely accessible and openly licensed for public consumption. Such materials can be online courses, lectures, homework assignments, exercises, quizzes, interactive simulations, games etc.


Open educational resources (OER) are freely accessible, openly licensed text, media, and other digital assets that are useful for teaching, learning, and assessing as well as for research purposes


Examples of OER, include:


  • Full university courses, videos of lectures, homework assignments, and lecture notes.
  • Interactive mini-lessons and simulations about a specific topic, such as math or physics.
  • E-books that are peer-reviewed and supported with ancillary materials.
  • elementry school and high school lesson plans, worksheets, and activities that are aligned with state standards. 
  • Adaptations of previously published OER.
