What is xAPI?

xAPI is an eLearning specification that makes it possible to collect data about the wide range of experiences a person has within online and offline training activities. xAPI’s use of a shared format for both the receiving and sending of data makes xAPI an ideal tool for sharing learning between multiple systems

What are the benefits of using xAPI?

Many eLearning standards can only capture digital experiences. xAPI enables you to track experiences that happen in many different environments and systems. xAPI also has flexibility when it comes to the structure of “statements,” allowing you to track what’s most important to you..

What are the technical details?

There are two key elements within the xAPI specification: statements and the Learning Record Store (LRS). Statements dictate the format for specific learning activities and follow an “[actor] [verb] [object]” structure. The LRS is where xAPI statements are stored and its portion of the spec defines the communication method for sending, receiving and requesting data.
